CTOnews.com June 7 news, according to Japan's Kyodo news agency, the Japanese government decided to revise the "basic hydrogen strategy" at the relevant cabinet meeting on the 6th. The new strategy shows that in the next 15 years, the Japanese government and the private sector will invest a total of 15 trillion yen (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 765 billion yuan) to improve the hydrogen energy supply chain.

Prior to ▲ Pexels, Japan had proposed to increase hydrogen supply to 3 million tons in 2030 and 20 million tons in 2050. On this basis, the new strategy increases the target of reaching about 12 million tons of hydrogen supply by 2040, six times Japan's current annual hydrogen production of 2 million tons.

Hydrogen is regarded as the next generation of clean energy because it does not emit carbon dioxide during combustion. The Japanese government plans to use hydrogen as the main fuel for thermal power stations and fuel cell vehicles (FCV). In addition, the Japanese government also hopes to support the promotion of hydrogen-based ammonia and synthetic fuel industry.

In order to achieve large-scale commercial use of hydrogen energy before and after 2030, the Japanese government is striving to establish a large-scale hydrogen supply chain as soon as possible and will discuss supporting policies aimed at bridging the price gap between hydrogen and existing fuels such as coal.

Japan first formulated the basic hydrogen Strategy with other countries in 2017. Considering that Europe and the United States have put forward a more perfect policy to support the popularization of hydrogen energy in recent years, the Japanese government has decided to explore and revise the strategy.
