CTOnews.com, June 7 (Xinhua)-- Honda recently announced that the new SUV Acura ZDX under its high-performance brand will be the first electric car to run on Google's built-in system (Google Built-in), which will support native Android apps and OTA software updates. Car owners of Acura ZDX will be able to use popular Google apps such as Google Assistant and Google Maps and download more content from the Google Store.

It is reported that Google Built-in refers to the car directly integrated with Google Automotive Services, which is different from Android Auto, which only projects the mobile phone onto the infotainment screen of the car. It is also different from Android Automotive OS, where Android controls the entire operating system.

Honda said Acura ZDX would be equipped with an "enhanced" version of Google Maps to provide electric car drivers with optimized charging route planning and search for charging stations along the way to reduce travel time. Google Maps can also estimate the charging time required based on the destination and start the battery pre-adjustment when the destination is a DC fast charging station.

Honda has previously used customized embedded Android software on some cars, but did not make full use of Google's services. Now with Google Built-in, new car navigation will use Google Maps, Google Assistant can be used to control air conditioning, and music will be listened to by the Google Play,2024 Honda Accord, which is already equipped with Google Built-in.

It is worth noting that Acura ZDX will retain wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functions. Honda also announced that the Acura ZDX will be the first model to be sold only online.

CTOnews.com noted that Honda's current electric vehicle strategy relies mainly on cooperation with other manufacturers, and that the company's initial two electric vehicles, the Acura ZDX and Honda Prologue, will be based on GM's Ultium electric platform. Honda also helped Sony launch its first car brand, Afeela, which is expected to launch its first model in North America in 2026.
