CTOnews.com June 7, UP Squared i12 is a compact computer motherboard, slightly larger than the raspberry pie Raspberry Pi Model B, but not based on ARM low-power processors, but supports up to 28W Intel Alder Lake-P processors.

The UP Squared i12 is the latest in the UP board series of AAEON, an Asustek subsidiary, and is a smaller (and expected cheaper) alternative to UP Xtreme i12, which was launched at the end of 2022.

The new model has the same processor options, storage capabilities, and some of the same I / O features, including Raspberry Pi-like 40-pin GPIO connector connectors, but UP Squared i12 is smaller and has fewer ports and memory than Xtreme i12.

The UP Squared i12 measures 3.5in x 3.4in (90mm x 86mm) and is equipped with a 12th-generation Intel embedded processor. Options include:

Intel Core i5-1250PE (28W)

Intel Core i3-1220PE (28W)

Intel Cy Young 7305E (15W)

AAEON equips the motherboard with 8GB LPDDR5 memory (it seems possible to support up to 16GB); a M.2 2280 slot for storage that supports PCIe Gen 4 x4 SSD and a connector for SATA 3 hard drives or SSD; and an M.2 2230 E-Key for wireless network cards.

Ports include:

1 x DisplayPort 1.2

1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (with DisplayPort 1.4 Alt mode)

2 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A

2 Gigabit Ethernet (RTL8111H)

Other features include MIPI-CSI camera connectors, TPM 2.0 and 12V DC DC power inputs.

AAEON said the system can support up to three 4K displays at the same time for retail, healthcare or robotics, as well as machine vision (which supports MIPI-CSI cameras).

For comparison, the new UP Xtreme i12 is expected to be cheaper, starting at $399 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 2841 yuan).
