Yakrino joined NBC Global in October 2011 as head of advertising sales for NBC Global, where she played a key role in launching the Peacock streaming service.

Yakrino joined the Advertising Committee in 2014. In 2018, President Trump Trump appointed her as a member of the President's Sports, Fitness and Nutrition Committee.

Yakrino became chairman of the Advertising Committee in January 2021 and served until June 30, 2022. As chairman, Yakrino worked with the Biden government in 2021 to create a coronavirus vaccine campaign featuring Pope Francis. She also chaired the Future Task Force of the World Economic Forum.

On her appointment, the Financial Times pointed out that Mr Musk was sceptical about the World Economic Forum, which Mr Yakrino is linked to, which he had previously criticised as "increasingly an unelected world government".

Musk assured fans that he did not believe that Yakrino's links to the World Economic Forum hindered his commitment to freedom of expression, writing about her appointment as chief executive of Twitter, "the commitment to open source transparency and acceptance of a wide range of views has not changed."
