Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
On June 7, Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Huang Xuncai said that new technologies, including artificial intelligence, will subvert the labor market, but will not completely eliminate job opportunities.
Science and technology can actually increase human productivity and create more jobs, he said at the Asia Science and Technology x Singapore Summit (Asia Tech x Singapore) on Tuesday.
"I don't think we will eventually face a jobless future in which machines replace all human jobs and people will feel uneasy that technology can replace jobs," Huang said. "the nature of blue-collar and white-collar jobs will change," he warned. "the pace of change will accelerate and the scale of disruptive changes will increase over time."
"Technology can also make us more efficient in performing other tasks, which will create new jobs and new jobs," he added. "
After its launch in November last year, chat robot ChatGPT quickly became popular on the Internet, and artificial intelligence became a hot word in the business community. The chat robot, powered by artificial intelligence technology, can automatically generate human-like responses to user questions, reaching 100 million users just two months after its launch.
Some researchers and analysts even believe that artificial intelligence may lead to human extinction and replace jobs.
Industry experts who hold this view include Sam Altman, chief executive of OpenAI, the ChatGPT developer, as well as executives from Google's industrial intelligence unit DeepMind and Microsoft. They called on the world to give priority to reducing the risks associated with artificial intelligence.
According to reports, Gita Gopinath, first vice president of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), also warned that there would be "large-scale subversion" in the labor market and that generative artificial intelligence would bring "very great" risks. She also called on governments to enact regulations to regulate the technology.
Huang Xuncai said that in the face of the upcoming disruptive changes brought about by artificial intelligence, people need to learn to adjust and adapt. "this is bound to make people who are less able to adjust and adapt feel anxious. We all need to do more to help our employees improve their skills so that they can remain competitive and not out-of-date in an increasingly digital world."
Huang Xuncai believes, "We cannot let the market solve this problem on its own, nor can we say that this is just the responsibility of the employer."
He added that regulators needed to provide "full support" in job matching and skills training. "this requires coordination and initiative among the government, industry and skills training institutions," Huang said. "
Huang Xuncai said that Singapore launched the world's first test kit, AI Verify, to help companies objectively assess and verify whether artificial intelligence products are responsible and in line with international principles.
Singapore will continue to work with the artificial intelligence industry to carry out pilot projects and promote the development of artificial intelligence testing standards, he added.
