SK Group's EV battery charger manufacturing plant in Texas, USA, was officially completed on Monday, the first electric vehicle charger factory built by a Korean company in the United States.

At the completion ceremony, Hyundai President Shin Zhenghao said Hyundai is confident to compete with Tesla in terms of charging speed and compatibility with a wider range of electric vehicles. "The Tesla Supercharger is specifically designed for Tesla electric vehicles, so it may have poor compatibility with other electric vehicles. "

The plant, located in Plano, 20 miles northeast of Dallas, will produce 10,000 400 kilowatt-hour electric vehicle chargers a year starting next month. At present, Tesla and Hyundai's pure electric car IONIQ 5 uses a 230 kW charger, which means it can charge 230kWh per hour.

Simply put, a 400kW charger can charge the IONIQ 5 to 80% in 15 minutes and drive 400 kilometers on a single charge, equivalent to the distance from Seoul to Busan, South Korea's second largest city.

By comparison, GM's Hummer and Porsche Taycan electric cars have a charge of 360 kilowatts. Therefore, SK Signet, a 400 kW charger, can achieve faster charging speeds and support new electric vehicles with larger battery capacity.
