CTOnews.com June 6 news, Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry today released the revised "Semiconductor and Digital Industry Strategy," proposing that by 2030, Japan's domestic semiconductor industry sales will exceed 15 trillion yen (CTOnews.com remarks: currently about 763.5 billion yuan).

Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said the international situation has changed every moment since the semiconductor and digital industry strategy was formulated in June 2021. In addition to the growing importance of addressing economic security risks, digitalization and greening, artificial intelligence, especially generative AI, has attracted much attention in recent years as a new tool to improve productivity, and its application in various fields is rapidly advancing. In view of these changes, Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry launched the revised draft of the Semiconductor and Digital Industry Strategy.

▲ According to the revised draft of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, the sales volume of Japanese domestic semiconductor industry will be 5 trillion yen in 2020 (currently about 254.5 billion yuan). To ensure stable semiconductor supply, Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry hopes to triple this figure to 15 trillion yen by 2030. For advanced computing chips, advanced memory chips and other sub-areas, the revised draft also made clear deployment, including promoting 2nm computing chip mass production, NAND memory high performance and other next-generation technology goals.

METI also said the revised strategy aims to further strengthen Japan's ability to develop and produce cutting-edge semiconductors, which are critical to economic security and the development of advanced technologies such as generative AI.
