CTOnews.com, June 6 (Xinhua)-- Swedish streaming giant Spotify announced on its official website on June 5 that it will cut 200 jobs. The layoffs will mainly focus on the vertical departments and related functional departments of the global podcast business, accounting for 2% of Spotify's global workforce.

Sahar Elhabashi, vice president of Spotify, who is in charge of podcasting on ▲ Tu Yuan Spotify's official website, said that Spotify has been the most widely used audio podcast platform in most parts of the world and the largest podcast operator in the United States since it began operating the podcast service in early 2019. At present, Spotify has more than 100 million podcast listeners worldwide, and podcast advertising revenue experienced double-digit growth from 2021 to 2022.

But Sahar also said that in order to ensure the better development of the Spotify podcast business, especially to better support the creator community, the management team had to make difficult decisions to lay off staff. At the same time, the management will properly handle the follow-up matters of laid-off employees, including the expansion of medical insurance coverage and re-employment support.

Sahar stressed that in the future, Spotify will accelerate into the "next chapter" of the podcast business to improve the user experience, creators' returns and bring more valuable and high-profit business to themselves.

CTOnews.com previously reported that Spotify's first-quarter revenue reached 3.04 billion euros (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 23.134 billion yuan), up 14% from a year earlier, but slightly lower than the previous forecast of 3.1 billion euros (currently about 23.591 billion yuan) and a net loss of 225 million euros (currently about 1.712 billion yuan), compared with a net profit of 133 million euros (currently about 997 million yuan) in the same period last year.
