CTOnews.com, June 6 (Xinhua)-- according to the latest report released by market research firm Canalys, the smartphone market in North America shipped 34.6 million units in the first quarter of 2023, down 11.2% from the same period last year, which means that the smartphone market in the region has shrunk for four consecutive quarters.

Although it failed to save the overall weakness caused by the weakness of the low-end mass market below $200 (currently about 1422 yuan), but the average selling price of the smartphone market in North America rose from $671 in the same period last year (currently about 4771 yuan) to $790 (currently about 5617 yuan) in the first quarter of this year, a record high.

Apple is far ahead with a 59% market share, while Samsung fell as much as 25% from the first quarter of last year and ranked second with a market share of 23%. Google's current market share is only 4%, but it has grown by 20% over the same period, and its shipments are expected to continue to grow with the release of new Google Pixel products.

Due to the uncertain outlook for the US economy and falling consumer demand due to inflation, the overall smartphone market in North America is expected to fall by 5.4 per cent this year.

The high-end market above $600 (currently about 4266 yuan) is likely to decline 3.5 per cent this year, the first decline since 2020.

One plus (1%) and Nokia (1%) currently rank sixth and seventh in the North American smartphone market by shipments, and both have plans to make it into the top five this year.

Seven different models of iPhone entered the top 10 of North American unit sales, with iPhone Pro and Pro Max models contributing 45 per cent of shipments, further strengthening Apple's high-end position in the North American market.
