According to news in the morning of June 6, Beijing time, Apple announced at the Global developers Conference (WWDC) in the early morning this morning that the upcoming Mac Pro computer will be equipped with its new generation of strongest self-research chip M2 Ultra, which means that the strategic task of "CPU self-research switching" has been fully completed. Shares of Intel, a supplier of Apple's traditional computer processors, fell sharply on Monday on the bad news.

Jennifer Munn, Apple's director of engineering project management, demonstrated the M2 Ultra, which is three times faster than the Mac Pro with Intel processors. Munn called M2 Ultra a "chip monster".

Apple's own processor strategy began in 2020, when the company released its first processor, M1.

In 2021, Gregory Bryant, a former Intel executive, pointed out that Apple is a completely different competitor in the field of computer processors.

Bryant said that what Apple has brought to the market is not a simple CPU chip, but more importantly its developer ecosystem, that is, the integration of third-party developers and applications that have successfully implemented on Apple smartphones and tablets. It is inevitable that Apple will extend this ecosystem to personal computers.

According to Apple executives, the Mac Pro computer with the new processor is equipped with 192GB memory, which starts at $6999.

Intel has long dominated the processor market, but now its position is in jeopardy. With the exception of Apple, old rival AMD is expanding its market share in personal computers and data center server processors. In addition, Nvidia chips, the leader in the field of graphics processors, are popular with enterprise customers to run the popular big language models of artificial intelligence.

Apple accounted for 9.3% of the global PC market in the first quarter of this year, according to Gartner, an American technology market research firm. Overall, however, the global PC market has been shrinking across the board, with annual shipments plummeting at a rate of 30%. Apple's PC business earned $7.17 billion in sales in the first quarter of this year, down 31 per cent from a year earlier.

On Monday, Intel shares fell 4.63% to close at $29.86. Intel's current capital market capitalization is $124.5 billion.
