Based on the M2 Max chip on the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro released earlier this year, the M2 Ultra is the most powerful Apple Silicon chip to date. Compared to the M1 Ultra, the CPU performance of the M2 Ultra is improved by 20% and the GPU performance is improved by 30%.

The M2 Max has a 12-core CPU and 30-core GPU and supports up to 96GB of memory, but the M2 Ultra doubles all of these specs, with the new chip having a 24-core CPU, 60-core GPU, and up to 192GB of memory, and the high-end version of the M2 Ultra has a 76-core GPU.

CTOnews.com notes that the M2 Ultra is six times faster than the fastest Intel-based iMac, and Mac with the M2 Ultra can play 22 channels of 8K ProRes video simultaneously. Apple says it's the most powerful chip ever designed for a personal computer.
