CTOnews.com June 5, Linux Mint 21.2 "Victoria" is almost ready for prime time, and lead developer Clement Lefebvre confirms that the development cycle is over, which means that a Beta beta is coming soon.

Linux Mint 21.2 is the second update to the Linux Mint 21 series and is based on the Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish) system series and is originally scheduled for release in June 2023.

Version 21.2 of Linux Mint will come with commonly used Cinnamon, Xfce, and MATE desktop environments. The flagship version has been updated to Cinnamon 5.8, while others have been upgraded to Xfce 4.18 and MATE 1.26.

The Cinnamon version of Linux Mint 21.2 is supporting gestures on touchscreen devices (such as tablets or two-in-one laptops) and laptops with touchpads for media control, tiling, workspace management, and window management.

In addition to the new gestures in Linux Mint 21.2, the Cinnamon 5.8 desktop environment has been redesigned with tooltips and support for notification accent colors. For all supported desktops, Linux Mint 21.2 will also be equipped with a new global dark mode.

Other noteworthy features in Linux Mint 21.2 include login screen (Slick Greeter) improvements, such as support for multiple keyboard layouts, better touchpad support, automatic detection and enabling of touch clicks, and support for Wayland sessions.

By default, the upcoming version of Linux Mint will also provide full support for HEIF and AVIF images, improved Pix image viewer applications, appropriate support for Adobe Illustrator documents in Xreader document viewer applications, and better support for Flapak applications.
