CTOnews.com June 5, Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun reported that the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) disclosed the lunar probe SLIM's body to the media for the first time on the 4th. Meiichiro Sakai, who is in charge of JAXA's moon landing program, said JAXA is expected to launch using Japan's large domestic rocket H2A after August, which is also Japan's third challenge to the moon landing.

▲ source: the Yomiuri JAXA held a media briefing at the seed Island Universe Center in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. SLIM plans to try to land on the moon a few months after launch. If successful, Japan will be the fourth country to land on the moon after the former Soviet Union, the United States and China.

The SLIM detector is 2.4m high, 2.7m wide, 1.7m deep and weighs 200kg. Sakai Meiichiro said that JAXA has advantages in "accurate positioning and landing" technology with high landing accuracy and error control within 100m. Specifically, the probe can photograph the lunar surface with a camera, compare it with the lunar map entered in advance, and adjust the landing orbit. With this technology, the probe will be able to land at special locations such as slopes.

In contrast, traditional detectors use the landing method of issuing instructions from the ground and carrying out traction, which will produce errors in kilometers, so they usually choose an open and flat area where it is easy to land safely.

CTOnews.com previously reported that JAXA abandoned Japan's first lunar landing after the Lunar probe "Hospitality" developed by JAXA went missing after it separated from the SLS rocket in November last year. On April 26 this year, Japan's first commercial lunar lander developed by ispace of Japan went missing after an attempt to land on the lunar surface, declaring Japan's first commercial lunar landing failed.
