CTOnews.com June 5, Canonical announced that the Ubuntu Linux operating system now supports the AMD-Xilinx Versal AI Core Family VCK190 Evaluation Suite.

Versal VCK190 is AMD-Xilinx 's first Versal AI Core series evaluation suite designed to enable designers to develop solutions using AI and DSP engines that "provide more than 100x computing performance compared to other server-level CPU available on the market."

The AMD-Xilinx Versal AI Core Family VCK190 Assessment Suite uses the VC1902 Versal AI Core Family ACAP, which is expected to provide high-throughput AI reasoning and signal processing for cloud, edge, and network applications.

The suite equipment is equipped with dual-core Arm Cortex-A72 APU (application processing unit) and dual-core Arm Cortex-R5F RTPU (real-time processing unit), 400 AI engines, 1968 DSP engines and 1968 system logic units (K).

The suite is also equipped with PCIe Gen4 interfaces for high computing performance, DDR4 and LPDDR4 memory interfaces, HDMI ports for video processing applications, SFP28 and QSFP28 optical interfaces, and RJ-45 Ethernet port connectors for network and FMC expansion.

Ubuntu,Canonical running on the AMD-Xilinx Versal AI Core Series VCK190 Evaluation Suite now provides an optimized Ubuntu Desktop 22.04 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish) image for the VCK190 Evaluation Suite (non-ES) model.

Canonical also marks these images as "developer Preview", which means they are used only for evaluation and development purposes because of known problems. Canonical warns that the current Ubuntu Desktop 22.04 LTS image of the AMD-Xilinx Versal Adaptive SoC Evaluation Suite should not be used in production systems.
