CTOnews.com, June 5 (Xinhua)-- Video hosting service Vimeo announced that its TV application will be out of service on June 27. Vimeo said it would close all streaming applications that support the platform, including Android TV, Apple TV, Roku and Amazon Fire TV.

These Vimeo applications will be removed from their respective app stores, and Vimeo will no longer push any security updates or provide technical support for its TV applications. A supporting document found by Engadget shows that the latest changes do not apply to "branded applications available to Vimeo OTT enterprise sellers".

Vimeo is displaying on-screen notifications on users'TV screens informing them that they are about to shut down.

The Vimeo TV streaming app was launched in 2016, when the company positioned itself as a competitor to YouTube, but over the years Vimeo has transformed itself into a business-centric streaming platform.

However, the shutdown of Vimeo TV applications is not all over, and users can still project their Vimeo content onto the big screen with the help of Android and iPhone apps. Vimeo said it would phase out old products that no longer meet its standards, adding that "projection through its mobile app can provide a better continuous experience for the audience".

To play their favorite videos on compatible TVs, users only need to look for the Chromecast or AirPlay icon in the Vimeo app for Android and iOS.
