TSMC said it would not comment on the rumors, stressing that the research and development of 2nm technology is progressing smoothly and is expected to produce in 2025.

According to informed sources, in response to the preparatory work before the trial production of 2nm, TSMC also began to dispatch engineers to the bamboo research and development plant to prepare, and it is expected to summon a R & D team of more than 1,000 people to lead the global mass production of 2nm in Zhuke Baoshan wafer 20 plant. Public information shows that TSMC's most advanced 2nm production base will first settle in Zhuke Baoshan Wafer 20 Plant, which is planned for the fourth phase, and will be extended to Zhongke, with a total of six phases of the project.

It is reported in the industry that TSMC 2nm will first set up a small trial production line in bamboo at the initial stage of research and development, with the goal of trial production of nearly 1000 pieces this year. After the trial production is smooth, it will be introduced into the follow-up construction of Bamboo Baoshan Wafer 20 plant, and the team of the plant will relay the risk trial production in 2024 and the production target in 2025.

It is reported that TSMC 2nm will adopt a new GAA transistor architecture for the first time. TSMC previously pointed out in the technical forum that the overall system efficiency of the relevant new technologies is much higher than that of 3nm, and the willingness of customers to invest in cooperative development in advance is much higher than that in the initial stage of the 3nm family, and more meta-solutions can be tailored.

CTOnews.com noted that TSMC has previously released the 2nm family process blueprint, in which N2 will be mass produced in 2025, and the back rail design for high-speed computing (HPC) products will be launched in the second half of 2025; in addition, the N2P and N2X of the 2nm family are expected to be launched in 2026.

Nvidia CEO Huang Renxun previously publicly pointed out that TSMC will introduce the AI system that Nvidia has spent nearly four years working with other partners into 2nm trial production, which is expected to start in June. It not only takes about one-40th of the computing time, but also further refines the cycle and mass production schedule, while reducing the manufacturing carbon footprint and preparing for 2nm and even more advanced processes.
