CTOnews.com, June 4, Tesla cannot sell cars directly to consumers due to outdated laws in some states and lobbying by dealers. New Mexico is one of them, but Tesla used an ingenious way to open a second sales, service and delivery center in the state.

The solution is to build a sales center on tribal land (tribal land), which is not subject to state law, so Tesla can provide prohibited services in these areas. Tesla's first showroom in New Mexico, which opened in 2021, was once a casino on the land of the Nanbei tribe. The second exhibition hall, specially built by Tesla on the land of the Santa Ana tribe, was announced in October last year and opened on Thursday.

The 35000-square-foot facility includes a showroom, a customer lounge, 19 service rooms and a spare parts storage area. The facility is expected to create 25 full-time jobs in the area, and Tesla will also work with the Santa Ana tribe to provide vocational training and science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM) education and promotion for local high schools.

"our cooperation with Tesla is another step in creating prosperous, diverse and forward-looking economic opportunities on our land that are in line with our environmental philosophy and promote the economic development of our places and states. and unite our communities." Said Nathan Garcia, chief of the Santa Ana tribe.

Tesla is battling antiquated laws that prevent the company from selling cars directly to consumers, and Tesla recently won an appeal in the Delaware Supreme Court to allow direct sales in the state. Although Tesla has headquarters and a multibillion-dollar superfactory in Austin, Texas, Tesla and other electric carmakers still cannot sell cars directly to consumers in Texas.
