CTOnews.com, June 4 (Xinhua)-- according to a paper published in Current Biology in April this year, researchers studied the developmental stages of 22 living species and concluded that marsupials (scientific name: Marsupialia) evolved faster than humans, ahead of all mammals.

The industry's previous consensus is that marsupials roam the edge of mammals and are the slowest to evolve, mainly because many see it as an intermediate stage between egg-laying and viviparous mammals, while the latest study uses 3D microscopic CT scans to reveal other evolution that humans did not know about before.

By looking at the evolutionary journey of the current marsupial and the common ancestor 160 million years ago, the researchers found that the mode of delivery of the marsupial is not simple, but is actually a more professional type of development, ahead of all mammals.

Studies suggest that marsupial evolution is completely different from other mammals, which may make them the most evolved mammals on earth.

However, the study is far from complete. The team can only look at 22 different species, which means more research is needed to more strongly support the findings. Due to the lack of early examples of these biological development, there are also some limitations in how they estimate the state of their ancestors.
