CTOnews.com, June 3, according to a list published by the U.S. Trademark and Patent Office (USPTO), Apple recently obtained a design patent for a tactile feedback / vibration motor Taptic Engine to better protect the Taptic Engine in situations such as device drops.

The patented invention is not very exciting, but it shows that Apple is trying to improve its devices.

Apple says its existing tactile feedback engine will hang a mass block to output feedback from the user's tactile sense. When falling or being hit hard, it may cause the mass to exceed the threshold set by the spring, thus damaging the tactile feedback engine.

To this end, Apple adds a non-linear spring component to its existing tactile feedback engine to ease these forces in the event of a drop or collision.
