CTOnews.com, June 2, according to the latest report released by market research firm IDC, global augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) shipment growth slowed sharply in the first quarter of 2023 as macroeconomic conditions deteriorated. The report said that AR / VR head shipments fell 54.4% in the first quarter of 2023 compared with the same period last year, of which VR head shipments accounted for 96.2%.

Among the top five manufacturers of AR / VR, Meta continues to lead with 47.8 per cent; Sony accounts for 359 per cent of the market this quarter with PSVR 2; and Pico grows its share from 4.4 per cent last year to 6.1 per cent this year, with HTC ranking fourth and fifth, each with less than 2 per cent share.

The global economy is in the doldrums, but for the AR / VR headline market, companies such as Apple will continue to pour in in the coming weeks and months.

Against the backdrop of Sony's challenge to the Meta, Apple's upcoming first head is highly anticipated. Although Apple's headset is high-end, it will subdivide the high-end market that is different from the existing mainstream consumer leaders, and its share will not increase significantly in the short term, but Apple's influence will attract many fans.
