Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, June 1-the Indian state government announced on Thursday that Apple supplier Foxconn will start producing iPhone at its Devanahalli plant in rural Bangalore in the southern Indian state of Karnataka by April 2024. The factory site will be handed over to Foxconn by July 1, the government said in a statement.
According to reports, Foxconn plans to complete the construction of the Devanahalli plant in three phases, with an annual production capacity of 20 million mobile phones (20 million) after the completion of the third phase.
The company has paid 30 per cent of the land cost (900 million rupees, currently about 77.31 million yuan) to the Karnataka Industrial Zone Development Commission (KIADB). MB Patil, minister of heavy industry in the Indian state of Karnataka, said that "the government has decided to speed up the 136 billion rupees project, which aims to provide jobs for 50000 people."
In fact, it has long been reported that Hon Hai Precision Industries (Foxconn) will start building a new assembly plant in Bangalore to assemble the iPhone, which has freed up 300 acres of land (an industrial zone in the information technology investment zone near Bangalore International Airport).
Bloomberg reported earlier that Foxconn Technology Group plans to invest about $700 million in the Karnataka plant (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 4.977 billion yuan). The state's investment promotion department tweeted that the move would create 100000 jobs over the next 10 years.
It is worth mentioning that Apple began assembling iPhone in India in 2017 through Wittronic and Foxconn. Currently, at least three Apple global suppliers are assembling the iPhone-- in India, including Foxconn, Pegatron in Tamil Nadu and Weitron in Karnataka.
In January, India's trade minister said Apple wanted India to account for 25% of its production, up from the current 5-7%.
