CTOnews.com, June 1 (Xinhua)-- revenue from the global NAND flash memory industry was about $8.63 billion in the first quarter (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 61.359 billion yuan), down 16.1% from the previous quarter, and a double-digit decline again after a 25% decline in the fourth quarter of last year, according to TrendForce Ji Bang Consulting Research.

▲ Touyuan TrendForce Jibang Consulting explained that due to the global economic downturn, the demand for the three major terminal applications (servers, laptops and smartphones) did not improve, and manufacturers were forced to cut prices to clear inventory. The average selling price (ASP) of global NAND flash memory fell by 15% in the first quarter, which directly led to the overall weakness of sales.

By company, Samsung Electronics continued to rank first with sales of $2.93 billion (currently about 20.832 billion yuan), down 15.8% from the previous quarter, but its market share rose slightly from the previous quarter to 34.0%.

In second place, the Japanese armor recorded sales of $1.8514 billion (currently about 13.163 billion yuan), down only 5.9% from the previous month, and its market share rose from 19.1% to 21.5%.

SK, which ranks third, has first-quarter sales of only $1.3155 billion (currently about 9.353 billion yuan), down 24.8% from a month earlier, and its market share shrank to 15.3%, further widening the gap with the armor.

Ji Bang Consulting predicts that as Samsung will join the ranks of production cuts like Micron in the second quarter, coupled with the increased willingness of major buyers represented by OEM manufacturers, the overall shipment of NAND flash memory is expected to increase by 5.2% month on month in the second quarter. However, as manufacturers are still under the pressure of inventory clearance, the whole product ASP continues to decline, so it is expected that NAND flash industry revenue will continue to decline in the second quarter. The month-on-month decrease is about 7.9%.
