CTOnews.com, June 1, according to the Korean media Digital Times, South Korea's Ulsan Institute of Science and Technology announced today that an international joint research team led by Professor Xu Yingde of the Department of Chemistry and Columbia University and the Korea Institute of Chemical Technology have discovered the phenomenon and principle of infinitely sustainable nanocrystal bi-directional optical switches.

The findings are published online in the latest issue of the journal Nature.

It is expected to be widely used in photon quantum memory which can record and erase nanoparticles indefinitely, as well as super-resolution nanomicroscopy and biological nano-imaging.

The research team first discovered light avalanches and extremely luminous light avalanche nanoparticles in January 2021. Light avalanche refers to the phenomenon that light is magnified into more and more energy light by chain.

In addition, the team conducted an experiment to understand how nanoparticles work repeatedly, that is, repeatedly writing and erasing nanoparticles on a 3D substrate. The following picture shows the results of repeated writing and erasure experiments of various nano-patterns (left) and super-resolution nano-images by the nanocrystal optical switch (right) provided by the R & D team.
