CTOnews.com May 31, Microsoft launched a new version of Microsoft Teams for Windows users through a public preview in March this year, but the current Windows version of Teams "Classic" version is still the default version for users, which will change later this year.

Anupam Pattnaik, product director of Microsoft's revamped Teams, said the revamped Teams will become the default setting for Windows users later in 2023.

Currently, Microsoft's job is to make the new Teams version (also officially known as Teams 2.0) with the same features as the current "classic" Teams client, including functions such as conference rooms.

Pattnaik also said that Teams 2.0 will also be available for Mac, Web and VDI platforms later this year and will be extended to Microsoft Education and government customers.

Compared with the current classic version, the biggest feature of the new Teams version is faster performance. Microsoft says the new Teams doubles its startup speed, doubles the speed for users to join meetings, reduces memory usage by up to 50 per cent and takes up 70 per cent less storage space.

The improved Teams also brings some other new features, including allowing users to keep logging in to the application, even if they are accessing it using different accounts and organizations, and providing notifications on any Teams accounts used.
