Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, May 30 (Xinhua)-- some Microsoft Surface Pro X users suddenly discovered last week that their ARM laptops can no longer use camera and camera-related features, such as Windows Hello. Any attempt to open an application with an integrated camera will result in a "0xA00F4271 (0x80004005)" error. Now, Microsoft has deployed a temporary fix to alleviate the problem.
The updated Windows Release Health dashboard contains all the details about the problem causing camera paralysis in ARM-based Windows PC. According to Microsoft, the vulnerability will affect Qualcomm 8cx Gen 1, 8cx Gen 2, and Microsoft SQ1 / SQ2 chip devices running Windows 11 version 22H2/21H2 and Windows 10 22H2. In other words, it's not unique to Surface, and the external USB camera works.
Some users have reported that the integrated camera is working again, thanks to Microsoft's deployment of "critical troubleshooting programs" to alleviate problems on most affected Windows devices. The troubleshooter starts automatically and does not require any action by the user. Users can check the ARM-driven PC by looking for the following entry in the troubleshooting history:
"troubleshooting hardware and equipment
Automatically change system settings to fix problems on the device. "
Although the cameras returned to normal, Microsoft said the mitigation measures were temporary. In addition, the fix is not available on managed devices because the troubleshooter is disabled by the administrator. Resolving these camera errors on PC requires the following commands with administrator privileges:
Reg add "HKLM\ SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\ Control\ Qualcomm\ Camera" / v EnableQCOMFD / t REG_DWORD / d 0 / f you can use the command line method on unmanaged devices if you have not received the critical troubleshooting program. However, Microsoft warns that it only applies to affected devices, so if the integrated camera works properly, please do not modify the registry of the system at will.
In addition, the solution has side effects. Microsoft says it may disable some camera features or reduce image quality, and Microsoft is working with OEM vendors to develop new camera drivers to get the camera back to normal operation.
