Arm today announced a new computing solution for mobile processors for 2023: TCS23. The CPU segment includes the Cortex-X4, Cortex-A720, and Cortex-A520 cores, all based on Arm v9.2 architecture, with significant improvements in performance and efficiency, as well as enhanced security and scalability.

After Arm's new IP was released, Dr. Xu Jingquan, senior vice president of MediaTek and general manager of Wireless Communications Division, delivered a speech. In his speech, Dr. Xu Jingquan said that MediaTek's next-generation flagship mobile platform Tianji 9300 will adopt Arm's new mobile processor core IP. In other words, the Tianji 9300 platform will usher in a brand-new upgrade of the core architecture, with the brand-new Cortex-X4 super-large core and Cortex-A720 performance core, the overall performance will be greatly improved.

According to Arm, the Cortex-X4 core has an average performance improvement of 15% over last year's X3 core, while reducing power consumption by 40% at the same frequency, and the core physical size has increased by less than 10%, making it the most efficient Cortex-X core ever.

The Cortex-A720 is the latest performance core, with a 20% increase in efficiency and performance at the same power as last year's A715. The A720 core has also made some improvements at the front end, such as shortening pipeline length, optimizing branch prediction, and pipelining floating point division and square root operations.

Not only that, but the Tianji 9300 platform will also feature Arm's new fifth-generation GPU Immortalis-G720, released today. Compared to last year's Immortalis G715, the Immortalis G720 has improved energy efficiency by 15%, peak performance by 15%, and frame rate by an average of 15%. In actual performance, Arm measured a 20% improvement over Immortalis G715, meaning mobile platforms can achieve more immersive, advanced gaming effects and even support PC-level effects such as real-time dynamic lighting, floodlighting, depth of field and screen-space ambient light occlusion.

Of course, these are only the basic improvements of Arm's new generation processor IP. When specifically applied to Tianji 9300 chip platform, I believe that under the support of MediaTek's technology and innovative R & D, it will burst out more powerful strength.
