CTOnews.com May 29, MX Linux developers announced that the MX Linux 23 "Libretto" version of the Beta version of public testing has been fully launched.

MX Linux 23 will be based on the Debian 12 "Bookworm" operating system family, using the long-supported version of the Linux 6.1 LTS kernel family, using sysVinit as the default init system, and providing Xfce 4.18, KDE Plasma 5.27 LTS and Fluxbox 1.3.7 desktop environments.

There are also some new features in MX Linux 23, including support for swapping files in the installer and default for "regular" automatic installation methods, support for PipeWire and WirePlumber to manage audio instead of PulseAudio, and the nala command-line APT front end as the default back end for MX Updater.

The Fluxbox version updates a number of new configuration options to replace the special "appfinder" configuration of xfce4-appfinder 's Rofi file manager and to support Fluxbox theming using the MX Tweak theme module.

Among other noteworthy changes, MX Linux 23 brings more obvious "check media" capabilities to the real-time launch menu and many updated MX applications, including various bug Bug fixes and enhancements, such as support for launching them using a separate policy toolkit configuration.

The Debian 12 "Bookworm" operating system series will be released on June 10, 2023, followed by the final version of MX Linux 23.
