The studio's layoffs were mainly due to a setback in the development of a "3A multiplayer game" project, which led to a loss of confidence on Sony, according to John Borba, a former PlayStation Visual Arts project coordinator, on LinkedIn.

Naughty Dog Game Studio has previously announced that "Last Survivor" multiplayer mode will take some time to go online and is currently developing a game with a new single-player experience.
