CTOnews.com, May 29, Arm today announced its comprehensive computing solutions for 2023, including next-generation CPU such as Cortex-X4, A720 and A520, and fifth-generation GPU such as Immortalis G720, Mali G720 and Mali G620. These GPU are improved and optimized on the basis of the original, among which Immortalis G720 is the most powerful GPU of Arm so far, which not only has a significant improvement in performance, but also has a breakthrough in efficiency.

The biggest innovation of the Immortalis G720 is the introduction of delayed vertex shading (DVS), a method that reduces memory access and bandwidth usage, thereby saving power and increasing frame rates. According to Arm, 1/3 of the power consumption in high-performance games comes from memory access, while DVS can reduce bandwidth usage by 40%. Compared with last year's Immortalis G715, the Immortalis G720 has a 15 per cent increase in performance per watt, a 15 per cent increase in peak performance, and an average 15 per cent increase in frame rate. In the actual performance, the performance measured by Arm is 20% higher than that of Immortalis G715, a large part of which can be attributed to the bandwidth savings of DVS. This means that mobile platforms can achieve more immersive and advanced gaming effects, and even support PC-level special effects, such as real-time dynamic lighting, floodlighting, depth of field and screen space ambient light masking. In fact, the desktop renderer of Unreal engine 5 will also be available on Android later this year.

CTOnews.com notes that in addition to DVS, the Immortalis G720 has other advantages, such as support for hardware-level RayTracing, variable rate shading, 2x MSAA modules, and so on. All these can make GPU better adapt to different game scenarios and needs, and provide a more realistic, smoother and more lasting game experience. The Immortalis G720 can have up to 16 cores, while the Mali G720 can have 6 to 9 cores (it may not support RayTracing). The Mali G620 is a GPU that is more suitable for the low-end market and can have up to five cores.
