CTOnews.com, May 28 (Xinhua)-- developer Mishaal Rahman dug deep into Android Open Source Project (AOSP) code and discovered a new service called DeviceAsWebcam that converts Android phones into webcams.

CTOnews.com note: not all Android phones can be converted to webcams, the device must support the UVC (USB Video Class) standard, and the device kernel must be compiled with a specific configuration (CONFIG_USB_CONFIGFS_F_UVC=y).

After UVC-compliant Android devices connect to PC via a USB cable, after selecting the "Webcam" option, the camera image can be sent to the / dev/ video* node to function as a webcam.
