Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, May 28 / PRNewswire-FirstCall-Asianet /-- artificial intelligence (AI) is changing the labor market, but the change is having a greater impact on women, according to research by human resources analysis firm Revelio Labs. According to a study by the National Bureau of Economic Research, Revelio Labs identified which occupations were most likely to be replaced by AI and found that many of these occupations were held by women, such as cashiers, payroll commissioners (accountants) and administrative secretaries.
"the gender distribution in the profession reflects deep-rooted prejudices in our society, and women are often limited to roles such as administrative assistants and secretaries," said Hakki Ozdenoren, an economist at Revelio Labs. "as a result, the influence of AI has become skewed along gender boundaries."
The progress of AI has exacerbated the gender gap in the global workforce, and some companies are considering laying off some of their staff and using raw AI in their workflows. CTOnews.com notes that IBM recently said it was slowing the hiring of back-office functions, such as human resources, that could be easily replaced by AI. Arvind Krishna, chief executive of IBM, estimates that 30 per cent of these jobs could be replaced by automation over the next five years, leading to the loss of about 7800 jobs.
AI is more likely to replace repetitive work, which is mainly done by women. For example, OpenAI's ChatGPT model can quickly search, review, and summarize large amounts of text, tasks that often take longer for legal assistants to complete. On the recruitment side, AI can automate the resume screening process, a task that used to require more people.
But this does not mean that other highly skilled workers can think their jobs are very safe, and Revelio Labs's preliminary research also shows that the birth of AI may have a greater impact on high-paying jobs than non-traditional manufacturing jobs.
"looking ahead, providing retraining opportunities for women will be the key for them to cope with the changing employment situation," Ozdenoren said. "by doing so, we can take advantage of both the potential of AI and their valuable skills and expertise."
