Tesla has been developing HW4, and the first pictures of the computer were exposed earlier this year. Tesla began installing HW4 on his flagship models Model S and Model X earlier this year. The slow roll-out helps assess the early performance of the new computer, which is more suitable for Tesla's transition to vision-based autopilot, moving away from his previous reliance on radar sensors.

Some netizens have found pictures of Model Y vehicles equipped with HW4 in California, which have more powerful cameras than previous vehicles equipped with HW3.

CTOnews.com noted that when Tesla installed the HW4 kit on the Model S and Model X models, some features were not immediately available at delivery, but they were already helpful in some auxiliary driving operations, including unprotected turns.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk still insists that Tesla will solve the problem of fully autonomous driving by the end of this year, and that HW4 may be an important step in the company's plan to launch a complete FSD suite and Robotaxi in the future.
