CTOnews.com, May 28, Japan's Kyodo News Agency reported that Sharp, controlled by Hon Hai Group, will implement an early retirement policy for some employees over the age of 55, involving about 700 executives.

Sharp said employees who accepted early retirement arrangements could receive up to an additional pension equivalent to six months' salary. Sharp stressed: this is not to lay off staff, but to help employees move on to the next stage of the benefits.

It is worth mentioning that Sharp asked employees to leave voluntarily in fiscal year 2013, and this voluntary early retirement system is the first time it has been implemented.

Sharp's operations were poor in fiscal 2022, reporting its first loss in six years in the fiscal year ended March 2023, with a net loss of 260.8 billion yen (currently about 13.144 billion yuan). This is mainly due to Sharp's acquisition in 2022 of the factory in CTOnews.com, once the world's largest LCD panel factory, but the factory suffered heavy losses due to the downturn in the panel market, which eventually dragged down Sharp's operations.
