CTOnews.com, May 28-Tonga volcano experienced a major eruption on January 15, 2022. Previous studies have found that atmospheric waves from the eruption have disturbed the ionosphere. In the newly published study, the interference range of atmospheric waves to the ionosphere is quantified.

According to a recent paper published in Scientific Reports, researchers believe that atmospheric waves caused by Tonga's eruption are at least 2000 kilometers (1240 miles) high.

The study also found that Tonga volcano eruption led to an increase in ionospheric electron density and height. Scientists believe this is due to the interaction between atmospheric waves and charged ions in the ionosphere.
