CTOnews.com, May 28 (Xinhua)-- Swedish electric boat startup Candela has partnered with electric carmaker Polar Star to launch the latest Candela Cmure 8 Polar Star hydrofoil speedboat.

Using the same 69 kWh battery pack and DC charging technology as the standard continued version of the Polar 2, the hydrofoil can achieve a range of 57 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 22 knots (CTOnews.com Note: about 40.23km / h). The maximum speed is 30 knots (about 56.33 km / h). The battery pack powers a 75-kilowatt electric direct-drive underwater thruster mounted on a pair of computer-controlled hydrofoils that can lift the hull out of the water at high speed, reducing energy consumption by 80% and improving comfort and calmness. Candela said it was a "flying over the water" experience.

Compared with the regular version, the Cmur8 has some customized design elements, such as a new gray appearance, specially designed seat fabric and a hydrofoil painted in the star's iconic golden color. Maximilian Missoni, design director of Polar Star, said: "Candela's hydrofoil technology is a paradigm shift for sustainability in the marine industry. Just like driving an electric car for the first time, when a ship takes off, you immediately feel that this is the future."

The Candela Cmuri 8 Polar Star version is 8.5m long, 2.5m wide and weighs 1.7t. It can seat eight people. A three-phase AC charger can be used to charge at a power of 11 kilowatts, and DC fast charging is also supported. The hydrofoil speedboat sells for $450000 (currently about 3.181 million yuan) (excluding tax) on Star or Candela's website, and delivery is expected to begin in June 2024. The two companies began working together last year to sign a multi-year battery technology supply agreement, the first direct battery technology cooperation between the automotive and marine industries.
