CTOnews.com, May 27 / PRNewswire-FirstCall-Asianet /-- Google began introducing a new feature called Magic Compose in its Messages app, which uses artificial intelligence to help users write text messages.

This function can provide suggestions in different styles and tones, such as formal, casual, excited or Shakespearean responses, depending on the content of the conversation and the user's prompts. Users can see a chat bubble icon next to the application's information editor, and click on it to select and modify suggested responses.

However, CTOnews.com found that there is one thing to note about this feature: it sends up to 20 previous messages from users, along with emoticons and URLs, to Google's servers so that their artificial intelligence can generate appropriate responses, even for RCS messages with end-to-end encryption (E2EE). Google stated these conditions on its Magic Compose support page and said it would not send any messages with attachments, voice messages and pictures, but picture descriptions and voice transcripts might be sent.

Google said that although Magic Compose using E2EE will send users' information to Google's server, Google still cannot read the information. Google spokesman Justin Rende further clarified that "the conversation data used by Magic Compose will not be retained, and the suggested reply output will not be retained once it is provided to the user." If users turn off Magic Compose, Google will no longer send users' information to its servers.

Magic Compose is one of many artificial intelligence features that Google demonstrated at its I / O campaign earlier this month and is currently being rolled out to users of the Google Messages test project. Currently, this feature seems to be available only for RCS messages, and it is not clear when SMS / MMS will be supported. Microsoft has introduced a similar feature in its keyboard app SwiftKey, which allows users to write text messages and emails through Bing icons and change the tone, format and length of the generated messages.
