CTOnews.com, May 26 (Xinhua) Microsoft introduced the sidebar feature in Edge browsers in 2022 to allow users to search the Internet from Web applications without navigating to another page. Since then, the feature has grown significantly, updating a number of features and improvements, and enhancing the user experience.

Earlier this year, Microsoft added personalization of my popular site to its custom sidebar options to help users plan a personalized experience, and created dedicated keyboard shortcuts (CTOnews.com Note: CTRL + SHIFT + /) that can be used to automatically hide or always show the sidebar in Edge to enhance accessibility.

Now, Microsoft is developing a new feature that allows users to separate the sidebar from the Edge and move it to desktops such as Windows 11. According to the Microsoft 365 roadmap, the feature is expected to be available to users sometime next month.

This enables a parallel experience for any Windows application, including the Edge browser itself, and users can enjoy simplified access to artificial intelligence tools and Web-based services, including Bing Chat, without launching a browser window. Administrators can use StandaloneHubsSidebarEnabled to control their availability.

Once the feature is fully available, users will be able to attach the sidebar from Edge to their Windows desktop by clicking the pop-up icon at the bottom, but users will need to manually select to enable it.

It is also worth noting that even if the Edge browser is closed, users can use the sidebar directly on their Windows desktop and access all the content pinned to the tool.
