The Canary channel is a channel to preview platform changes that take longer to prepare before they are released to customers, some examples of which include major changes to the Windows kernel, new API, and so on. The version released by Microsoft to Canary Channel should not be considered to match any particular Windows version, some changes attempted in Canary Channel may never be released, and others may appear in future Windows versions when ready.

Microsoft says that the Canary version may contain major problems that may cause your PC to be incorrectly used, or even require you to reinstall Windows in rare cases. Microsoft will provide limited documentation for Canary channels, and Canary channels will not receive daily Build versions, but Microsoft is likely to release versions more frequently in the future, and the desktop watermark that users see in the lower right corner of the desktop is normal for these pre-release versions.
