During the Microsoft Build 2023 developer conference, Qualcomm demonstrated the company's latest terminal-side AI innovations, including running spanning AI on Snapdragon's ®computing platform and new paths for developers to create applications on Windows 11 PC using Snapdragon's platform.

"in order for generative AI to be truly accepted and used by more people, a lot of reasoning work needs to be done on marginal terminals," said Ziad Asghar, senior vice president of product management at Qualcomm. "We have industry-leading AI hardware and software that empower developers to take full advantage of our powerful AI capabilities to create amazing new user experiences on laptops, mobile phones and other terminals equipped with Snapdragon platform."

The future of AI requires both terminal-side AI and cloud-based AI. Running AI applications on the terminal side can improve cost-effectiveness, enhance privacy, personalize, and reduce latency. Compared with AI workload processing only on CPU or GPU, Snapdragon platform integrates a dedicated Qualcomm AI engine to handle AI workload more efficiently, allowing small and lightweight devices to support terminal-side AI.

During the Microsoft Build, Qualcomm Technologies will bring technology demonstrations and tools to support the development of generative AI on the next generation of Windows 11 PC. As a generative AI model of text-generated image, Stable Diffusion has more than 1 billion parameters and has been able to run completely on the terminal side. Qualcomm said that in the coming months, models with parameters as high as 10 billion, including the Big language Model (LLM), are expected to run on the terminal side. In order to enhance Qualcomm's AI software stack and help developers create the next generation terminal-side AI experience, Qualcomm AI engine Direct SDK will be launched to the public for the first time on Microsoft Build. With ONNX Runtime and Qualcomm's AI software stack, users can now run AI workloads on the AI engine on their third-generation Snapdragon 8cx platform when using 5G version of Surface Pro 9 and Lenovo ThinkPad x13s.

During the conference, Qualcomm will also demonstrate the significant performance improvement that can be brought about by native compilation of popular applications for the Snapdragon platform, and launch a new developer portal to facilitate centralized access to the key tools, resources and support needed for Snapdragon development from a unified portal.
