CTOnews.com, May 25 (Xinhua) according to TrendForce research, DRAM industry revenue in the first quarter of this year was about $9.66 billion, down 21.2% from the previous quarter, and has been down for three more quarters. In terms of shipments, only Meguiar increased, while the rest declined; the average sales price of the three original factories all fell.

In terms of revenue, the revenue of the three original factories all declined. Samsung's shipments fell in line with the average price (ASP), with revenue of about $4.17 billion, down 24.7 per cent from the previous month.

Meguiar rose to second place in the first quarter, mainly because the financial reporting range was earlier than that of other original factories, so it benefited from the shipping orders at the end of last year, which was the only manufacturer whose shipments were growing at the end of last year, but there was still a certain recession, with revenue of US $2.72 billion, a decrease of 3.8% month-on-month.

SK Hynix shipments and ASP fell more than 15% in the first quarter, with revenue declining by 31.7%, the highest, at about $2.31 billion.

Analysts pointed out that due to the rapid decline in ASP, Q1 operating margins of the three original factories changed from positive to negative, while DRAM prices continued to decline, and operating margins remained at a loss in the second quarter. In terms of capacity planning, the three original factories have all started to reduce production, with Samsung, Micron and SK Hynix falling to 77%, 74% and 82% respectively in the second quarter.

CTOnews.com noted that not only large companies did not live up to expectations, but small factories such as Nanya, Winbond and PSMC also experienced some decline in performance, with revenue falling by 16.7 per cent, 8.8 per cent and 12.3 per cent respectively in the first quarter.
