Beijing time on May 25 morning news, US Eastern Time Wednesday, Meta announced the launch of the final round of mass layoffs, affecting about 6000 people.

Pexels employees from marketing, website security, corporate engineering, project management, content strategy, corporate relations and other departments posted messages on LinkedIn saying they had been laid off, and some employees in privacy and integrity departments had also been laid off.

Meta announced 11000 job cuts in November and another 10000 in March as part of a planned layoff in March.

At present, Meta employees have dropped to mid-2021 levels. Meta had 87314 employees in September last year, announced 11000 layoffs in November last year, and announced another 10000 layoffs in March this year. Once the layoffs are completed, the number of employees will drop to 66000, equivalent to a 25% reduction.

Meta doubled its market cap this year and performed extremely well among S & P 500 companies, largely because of the company's efforts to cut costs and focus on AI.

In March, Mark Zuckerberg said the second round of layoffs would take place in the coming months, with most of them ending in May and some minor layoffs after that.

Overall, layoffs were targeted primarily at non-engineering positions, which meant Meta code programmers were promoted. Zuckerberg promised to fundamentally restructure the team to optimize the ratio of engineers to other positions.

Meta executives have said that although some technical teams have also been affected by layoffs in April, it is mainly non-engineering positions affected within these teams, such as content design and user experience research.

India is an important market for Meta, but two executives in the Indian branch were fired: marketing director Avinash Pant and media cooperation director Saket Jha Saurabh.

After the pandemic ended, inflation in the United States surged, digital advertising spending fell, and Facebook revenue growth slowed, forcing layoffs.
