CTOnews.com May 25, Microsoft today released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23466 for Dev Channel, and you can download this version of the ISO image on the official website.

This release includes some new features announced and unveiled by Microsoft at the Build developer conference this week:

Development-driven Dev Drive is a new form of storage volume that can be used to improve the performance of critical workloads, built on a resilient file system (ReFS), including file system optimization and features, enabling developers to better manage their performance and security profiles. It is designed to meet the needs of developers to host project source code, working folders, and package caching.

CTOnews.com warns that this feature is mainly for developers and does not apply to the average consumer.

To set up Dev Drive, you can create one or create a new VHD / VHDX in the free space of the existing drive, either through system > Storage > Advanced Storage Settings > Settings under disk and Volume or through the command line.

According to reports, the Dev Drive is at least 50GB or higher, and Microsoft also recommends equipped with 8GB or higher memory.

As a result, Microsoft has also introduced a performance model, a new feature of Microsoft Defender, designed for Dev Drive to minimize the impact on developer workloads.

Backup and recovery improvements Microsoft introduced new backup and recovery capabilities on top of the application recovery features introduced last year, making it easier for users to migrate to the new PC and helping application developers retain users during the transition of the new PC.

Windows backup application: Microsoft will soon launch this new application to quickly back up current PC files and configurations and prepare to migrate them to another PC.

Application pushpin: your store application will be fixed in the location you used before, whether it's the taskbar or the start menu.

Settings: quickly restore settings from your old device to help you get back into the workflow as soon as possible.

Voice authoring users can now use the correct command to correct words that have been identified incorrectly.

You can say "correct [text]" or "correct that" to correct a specific text or the last dictation text. A correction window appears with a list of options marked with numbers.

You can also say "Click [number]" to select any option from the list. If you select an alternative word from the window, the selected text will be replaced by that word.

In addition, users can directly use the "spell that" or "spell out" commands to write the correct spelling of non-standard words such as "user name" and "subject".

When you open the spelling command, the system will pop up a spelling window in which you can dictate letters, numbers, symbols, phonetic, etc., and the system will also provide you with suggestions (candidates similar to input methods). You can say "Click [number]" to select a suggestion (if any), and the system will automatically accumulate spelling experience Suggestions will be automatically presented from the Windows dictionary the next time you dictate the word, phrase, or text.

Chinese narrator Microsoft is introducing new Chinese natural voice (including Microsoft Xiaoxiao and Microsoft Yunxi, which I believe Edge TTS users will be familiar with) to make "narrator" sound more comfortable, make it easier for users to browse the web, read and write emails, and perform more operations.

To use one of these natural sounds, follow these steps to add it to your PC:

Press the WIN + Ctrl + N hotkey to open the narrator settings.

Under the narrator's Voice, select the add button next to add Natural Sound.

Select the voice you want to install. You can install all voice messages, but you must install them separately.

To start downloading the selected voice, select install. The new voice will be downloaded and available in a few minutes, depending on your Internet speed.

After downloading the new voice, in the narrator settings, select your favorite voice from the drop-down menu of narrator Voice > Select Voice.

Changes and improvements to minimize interference with notifying toast, Microsoft will detect whether users are interacting with toast and provide advice on shutting down toast banners for such applications. Of course, this will only prevent the banner from appearing, and you can still find a reminder in the notification center.

This feature is coming soon, but due to A / B testing, not all Dev testers can see it immediately.

Start menu Microsoft is trying to sort the most recently used files in the recommendation section of the start menu through a new model that refers to when the user last used the file, the file extension, and so on.

Again, this feature is not immediately visible to all Dev testers due to A / B testing.

Search on the taskbar Microsoft originally introduced search boxes and search highlighting in Build 23440, but later disabled it to address Bug.

The purpose of this interaction model is that when you hover over the search box, it will pop up a "more attractive search experience" by calling search. This behavior can be adjusted by right-clicking the taskbar, selecting taskbar settings, and adjusting your preferred search box experience, or you can turn it off if you don't like it.

Thanks to the demands of countless users, Microsoft began to update its emoji. However, there are still some Bug in this release, and these Bug will be resolved in future releases.

Windows Security Microsoft updated the Windows Security (Firewall) Notification dialog box to match the visual effects of Windows 11.

Networking adds support for bridging adapters through the netsh through the command line.

The Passpoint Wi-Fi hotspot network will now support enhanced connection performance and will display a URL in Quick setup to provide users with information about the site or event.

Microsoft has added WPA3 support to the Phone Link instant hotspot feature to connect to mobile hotspots more securely. Fixes have also been made to comply with chargeback connection settings, reduce duplicate profiles, and display the name of the phone in the network list.

Settings Microsoft added links to advanced properties of network adapters and Internet properties under Settings > Network and Internet > Advanced Network Settings.

It is worth mentioning that Microsoft has also added a way to check the Wi-Fi password of a known network. You can check the saved network password through "Settings" > "Network and Internet" > "Wi-Fi" and "manage known Network". It is convenient for users to quickly find the corresponding password when they forget their password.

Add the ability to join the Bluetooth personal area network under Settings > Bluetooth and Devices, for example, when you share the Internet for PC via Bluetooth on your mobile phone.

Based on user feedback, Microsoft has added additional options to the data usage page, allowing you to set daily and weekly data caps. In addition, the page will now show the extent to which the limit is exceeded.

Microsoft updated Settings > applications > launch applications and Settings > applications > Advanced Application Settings > applications execute the design of the list displayed under the alias page to be consistent with other settings pages.

An icon has been added to the entries in the favorites drop-down list in the gallery.

We fixed the following issues for preview experience members through the modernization details pane in File Explorer:

Fixed an issue where the narrator did not say anything when opening and closing the details pane.

[taskbar] fixed an issue where the taskbar in a multi-monitor setting displays an indicator of an application window that is not actually focused on your screen.

[search on the taskbar]

We fixed a problem that caused some users to see content flicker before the content finished loading when they opened the search pop-up window.

We fixed a problem that caused some Insiders searches in the previous version to crash at startup.

To check which filters are attached, run "fsutil devdrv query":'in Windows PowerShell. If you see more than just the AV filter, you can run 'fsutil volume dismount:' and then' fsutil devdrv query:'. After completing these steps, you should only see your AV filter.

Thumbnail loading performance of dehydrated cloud files and memory usage in large collections are known issues that we focus on improving. Please capture performance tracking in the feedback center to resolve any performance-related issues. If the cloud file lacks a thumbnail, it helps to rebuild the indexer; search for indexing options and find the rebuild tool in advanced settings.

Photos from OneDrive for Business currently have to be hydrated to work properly.

Some file types, such as HEIC, may not render correctly or efficiently.

Insiders with access keys in File Explorer will see the following problems:

If no button is pressed, the access key will display inconsistently. Pressing the button will make them reappear.

Insider encounters problems when executing the following command on the recommended file in File Explorer:

Clicking the share command will currently bring up the Windows shared table (non-OneDrive).

[taskbar and system tray]

[new] if you drag and drop a window in the task view to a different desktop, the icon for the application may not appear in the taskbar.
