CTOnews.com May 24, Opera browser announced today that it is testing the AI sidebar feature called Aria. This feature is driven by OpenAI's ChatGPT and can generate text, write code, answer questions, and so on. Opera says this is an innovation in browsers that will provide users with a smarter and more convenient web experience.

According to Opera's official website, Aria is located in the sidebar on the left side of the browser, and users can interact with it after clicking the icon. Different from ordinary ChatGPT chatbots, Opera's browser AI can get the latest information from the Internet, and is familiar with all the supporting documents of Opera browsers, and can answer users' questions about the browser itself.

The launch of Aria is based on some of the existing AI features of Opera. CTOnews.com previously reported that as early as February this year, Opera added ChatGPT to its sidebar to generate summaries of pages or articles that users are currently visiting. In addition, Opera also introduces the AI prompts function, which provides shortcuts to different AI tools according to the user's web page or selected text. These tools include summary generation, tweets based on reading, interpretation of specific concepts, and so on.

Opera's new sidebar is similar to Microsoft's AI upgrade to Edge browsers. Microsoft not only integrated the Bing AI chatbot and OpenAI's DALL-E image generator into the Edge browser, but also announced that it would bring its AI-driven Microsoft 365 Copilot to the browser.

Currently, users can only access the AI sidebar of Opera by downloading the latest developer version of Opera One on the desktop or downloading the latest Opera beta on Android. After registering an account, Opera later informs the user when the feature will be available.
