According to market sources, Nvidia's A100 and H100 AI GPU orders have increased, leading to an increase in TSMC wafer starts.

Nvidia's H100 GPU uses the Hopper architecture and TSMC 4 nm process, while the A100 uses TSMC 7 nm process. Orders have been received one after another and delivery is expected to begin in October.

In addition, Nvidia's H100 GPU is also expected to be part of the Tokyo 100 supercomputer in Japan, which will use simulation and artificial intelligence to speed up the drug discovery process.

The DGX H100 comes with eight GPU, all of which have transformer engines that speed up the generation of AI models. Compared with the DGX A100, the DGX H100 is twice as energy efficient (in kilowatts per gigawatt floating-point operations).

Nvidia is currently following TSMC because its existing orders are reported to be full. Nvidia's order will help TSMC fill the capacity gap caused by MediaTek's order cuts.
