"We may choose another location before the end of the year," Musk said in an interview earlier today. For months, there has been speculation that Tesla has competed in multiple locations around the world for the leading electric carmaker's next manufacturing plant.

Asked if Musk was interested in building a factory in India, he said: "absolutely."

Earlier this year, Tesla also announced that he would build another production plant in Mexico, but the plant has not yet broken ground.

There is no indication of where the new plant will eventually be built. However, India's deputy minister of science and technology said in an interview last week that Tesla's plan to set up a manufacturing base in India was "serious". Tesla is trying to expand car production around the world.

In addition, recent meetings with Mr Musk and government officials suggest that France is expected to be the site for Tesla's next factory, but the actual situation may be much more complicated. Apart from France, Canada should also be the expected place for many people.

As previously reported by CTOnews.com, Tesla Fremont and Shanghai super factories are already producing cars at maximum capacity, while Berlin and Austin plants are expanding production. The company has reached its production target of 1.8 million vehicles by 2023 as planned. However, Mr Musk said Tesla had a production capacity of 2 million vehicles this year.

If all goes according to plan, Tesla should locate the new factory by the end of 2023.
