CTOnews.com, May 23, Microsoft announced at the Build 2023 developer Conference today that its artificial intelligence assistant Copilot will log on to Edge browser to provide users with a more convenient work experience. Copilot can perform other software tasks according to the content of the website that users are browsing, such as Office documents, Outlook email and other places covered by Microsoft's 365Copilot.

For example, if you are a salesperson and are browsing a potential customer's website, you can ask Copilot for all information about that customer in your Edge browser, including previous meetings, emails, and chat records. Copilot can also help you reply to an email from your boss asking about the customer's progress based on the information you are viewing.

Microsoft 365 Copilot is a comprehensive office digital assistant under Microsoft, which is supported by OpenAI. It's similar to the classic Clippy helper in the past, but this time Copilot can really help you draft content that is suitable for sending to colleagues or add data to the document. CTOnews.com notes that Copilot also uses the same GPT-4 artificial intelligence model as the new version of Bing.

Copilot in Edge browsers exists in the browser's sidebar and can be used at any time when you browse the web. Like other Copilot instances, you only need to interact with a dialog similar to Bing AI and instruct it to do things in natural language.

Lindsay Kubasik, product manager of Microsoft Edge Enterprise Group, introduces some examples of Microsoft 365Copilot in Edge in a new blog:

You can enter a natural language request, such as "tell my team how we updated our product strategy today." Microsoft 365 Copilot will generate a status update based on morning meetings, emails, and chat clues. Combined with Edge, Microsoft 365 Copilot becomes more intuitive, providing better answers by tracking the context of what you view in your browser. For example, when you look at a file shared by a colleague, you simply ask, "what are the key points of this document?"

In addition, Microsoft's enterprise data protection extends to Microsoft Edge for Business and will become a standard browser for organizations that use Azure AD. Edge for Business can automatically separate working browsing and personal browsing content by providing a separate window with a separate Web cache, thereby protecting corporate data and preventing personal data from being synchronized back to the company.

Microsoft also announced other Edge-related news, including the introduction of Edge Workspaces features that support tag collaboration in the coming months, and now supports the development of Edge sidebar applications-which helps make progressive web applications work better with your browsing experience. Edge will also support the new Microsoft 365 Copilot plug-in, which enables people to interact with applications using chat robot prompts.

Currently, Microsoft 365 Copilot is only available for private preview and must be used with an Azure AD-based work account. With the accession of Edge, this account requirement remains unchanged "to meet existing commitments in terms of enterprise data security and privacy".
