Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com Adobe Photoshop will get a generative AI tool that lets users quickly expand images and add or delete objects via text prompts. The tool is called Generative Fill, and Photoshop is one of Adobe's first creative cloud apps to use the AI image generator Firefly. Firefly was released as a web beta in March, and Generative Fill is currently in beta, but Adobe says the feature will be officially added to Photoshop later this year.
Generative Fill, a general tool in Photoshop, can be used in individual layers of Photoshop image files. If you use it to extend the boundaries of an image (also known as outlining) or generate new objects, you are given three options to choose from. When used for sketching, the user can let the system automatically try to expand the image without entering any prompts, but it works better if some direction is given. Think of it as an upgrade to Photoshop's existing content-aware fill capabilities, but giving users more control.
Besides functionality, another important element of Firefly is its training data. Adobe claims that the model was trained using only content that the company has rights to use--such as Adobe Stock images, open-licensed content, and content without any copyright restrictions. In theory, this means that anything generated using the Generative Fill feature should be safe for commercial use.
Generative Fill also supports Content Credentials, a system of "nutrition tags" that attach attribution data to images before they are shared online, telling viewers whether the content was created or edited using AI.
Generative Fill isn't currently available in the official Photoshop release, but users can try it out by downloading the desktop beta app or as a module in the Firefly beta app, which Adobe says it expects to launch in the public Photoshop app "in the second half of 2023."
CTOnews.com notes that Firefly is already being used by Adobe Illustrator to recolor vector-based images, and Adobe has also said it plans to integrate Firefly with Adobe Express, a cloud-based design platform that competes with services like Canva, though there is no word yet on when it will be released.
