CTOnews.com May 23 News, Beepberry is a pocket computer designed for instant messaging and a customizable device.

Equipped with a 2.7inch black-and-white Sharp LCD display and a BlackBerry classic keyboard, the Beepberry is designed to work with Raspberry Pi Zero W single board computers and run software connected to Beeper messaging services. Users can also use similar size single board computers and software to make their own devices.

Beeper is a multi-platform messaging service that allows users of 15 different services, including WhatsApp, Slack, Google Chat, Facebook Messenger, Telegram, Discord, and even Apple iMessage, to chat using a single application.

Beeper was founded by Eric Migicovsky, the founder of the now-defunct e-paper smartwatch company Pebble, and the promoter of the small-size Android Phone project.

So the Beepberry is more like a development kit than an end-user product, priced at $79 (currently about 556 yuan), and you can buy an Beepberry with a 2.7inch, 400 x 240 pixel display, a backlit keyboard, a printed circuit board and a 2000mAh battery.

But the development kit does not include a housing, and users can print or buy a separate shell in 3D, install a microSD card to store and install the software themselves, and figure out how to secure the battery in place.

Users can also pay $99 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 697 yuan) for a suite that includes Raspberry Pi Zero W, or they can use their own single board computer.

Beepberry is designed to run portable messaging devices based on the Linux operating system and connected to Beepberry services, but it does not currently support any type of cellular functionality. Thanks to the wireless function of Raspberry Pi Zero W, users can connect to the Internet through WiFi or mobile hotspots.

According to the Beepberry blog, manufacturers are considering increasing support for 4G LTE modems, LoRA radios or other hardware by using USB ports or GPIO pins.
