CTOnews.com May 23 news, according to 9to5 Google reports, Google announced the reading mode in December last year, and now the Android app is getting its first major update, adding background playback.

Read aloud mode version 1.1 will allow users to "continue listening to audio while using other apps or while the screen is off." Previously, exiting the overlay table or hitting the device's lock button would immediately end the text-to-speech conversion.

Read mode now continues to play and users receive media player notifications allowing play/pause, skip to the next sentence or go back to the previous sentence, and cancel the entire article, meaning users can read a long article in Read mode and keep the phone locked.

Users can also open Settings from the bottom left corner and go to the Audio tab and turn Play in Background on/off.

Android Reading Mode version 1.1 with background playback is now available through the Google Play Store at CTOnews.com.
