CTOnews.com, May 23, JetBrains recently announced that it will update its cross-platform UI development framework Compose Multiplatform to add support for iOS. Now developers can use the same code base to share development results among Android, iOS, desktops and web pages at a time, and get a more convenient and efficient cross-platform UI development experience.

By default in Compose Multiplatform, the iOS and Android application interfaces look roughly the same. On iOS, Compose Multiplatform uses the canvas of the Skiko graphics library for rendering, while on Android, it implements the user interface by using Jetpack Compose. Therefore, if the developer wants to port the application from Android to iOS, there is no need to change any of the code written.

Since Compose Multiplatform provides out-of-the-box Material and Material 3 gadgets on all platforms, developers can easily adjust the appearance of these gadgets to match the overall design style. At the same time, as Compose Multiplatform's support for iOS is still in the Alpha testing stage, the development team is still making adjustments and working with the Kotlin / Native team to improve the efficiency of the iOS interface.

CTOnews.com Note: Compose Multiplatform is a cross-platform development framework launched by JetBrains, based on Jetpack Compose, while Jetpack Compose is a modern user interface toolkit developed by Google for Android and written in Kotlin. Because the API of both is the same, Jetpack Compose developers can be familiar with writing a shared user interface using Compose Multiplatform. Developers can use the same code base to develop applications on multiple platforms to significantly reduce maintenance costs and development time. At the same time, because Compose Multiplatform is developed in Kotlin, it also inherits the advantages of Kotlin language, including concise syntax, null security, and rich standard function libraries.
